How are you all doing this beautiful morning? I’ve just finished a book for which I’m suppose to write a blurb! Ms. Elise was so kind to think of me for which I’m very appreciative! This is the seond book in her series and it is to be published in August this year! I’ll link the review of the first book further down in the review!
With the Darkness in full swing, the last thing the trinity needs is trouble from a pack of werewolves encroaching on Silver Mountain territory – are they friend or foe?
The fate of the supernatural world lies in the hands of the Trinity. Now that their powers have awakened, they’re one step closer to putting an end to the Darkness surrounding them. Or so they thought.
The death of Wren’s father brings an unsolicited visit from the Alpha Master of the Thornwood werewolf pack, and with it some troublesome news. Wren is faced with a decision that could end his life if he doesn’t choose wisely.
A mysterious book hidden in a secret room just might have the answers the Trinity is searching for. Perhaps with a little help from the past, a winged guardian, and some new friends – the Trinity can persevere and rise against the Darkness.
It’s so good to FINALLY know more about what happens to the Trinity! I read the first book back in January 2019 and I was intrigued by this series. This book picks up almost right where the previous one left off. If its been a while since you’ve read the first book I recommend to catch up on the last three chapters in the previous book just to get a little bit into it again. I didn’t do this so I had to actively refresh my brain but luckily the story came back rather quickly! However, now I have to wait for the third and final book which is going to be hard considering the cliff hanger Elise left this book at!
In this second book we get to meet the characters we loved from the previous book and they’re just as sassy and engaging as we remember them! We meet some new characters this time and I feel like they’re a good fit and bring good elements to the storyline. I was a bit worried when Hailey was introduced to the story. I know this book has elements from the YA genre in it so I was willing to accept some drama but I felt that we already had enough with Bryna in it so I felt that we didn’t need more Queen B’s in this book. Luckily Elise steered away from that one so I’ll leave you to ponder what Hailey does in this book. Let’s just say she grew on me, at least a little bit. I’m hopeful for Ryker as well, which is our new Alpha Master of the Thornwood pack, in several aspects. I hope faith can go a little bit against itself in the third book! PS! I’m still very much a Wren fan!
Since our characters are at the end of their high school experience I feel that Elise has done a good job at presenting the challenges, magical or not, that all young people encounter. There’s a lot of lasts, many choices to make, and you have to get used to the thought of changes approaching normal or magical ones. Quinn, Wren, Annabelle, and Blaire all deal with this on different levels although the magic seems to put everything else in shadow. With this magic comes great responsibility and mystery. In the previous book we were introduced to some of it and this book continues in the same line. This time we’re introduced to the grander aspect of this magic and we’re given hints all throughout the book about an unknown guardian that might be able to help. Let’s put it this way, I wasn’t able to guess who the guardian were before it was revealed. What a shocker right?! Let me know if you figure it out before it is revealed will you?
The Calling of the Trinity is definitley a worthy follow-up to Awakening the Trinity! We continue to follow old and new characters on their journey towards overcoming the Darkness. I really enjoyed reading this book and I felt that it had a very good flow whilst also revealing more about Quinn, Wren and Blaire’s world. If you’re into YA fantasy, magic and mysteries then I really recommend to pick up this series. I still feel that it’s different from what I’ve read before which is really refreshing!
