I finished this one last week, but due to some sickness, it took me some time to see the movie. I got to that today.
Travis is a happy bachelor. He has a dog, his own house, a boat and a good job. He loves adventure and he has figured that a girlfriend will only put a break on his fun. All his three buddies are married with kid and wives and the wives love to tease Travis about his love-life, or more the lack of it at this point. This is the way Travis prefers his life until Gabby moves in next door. Gabby is a medical student who also has a dog, a good job and a steady boyfriend. She is not too impressed with her new neighbour and they get off to a bad start. At the same time, there is something about Travis, even though he annoys her most of the time, that Gabby can’t quite resist. Will love pave a path of choices?
This book is quite lovely. I think my favourite part is the ending. The way Travis is presented with his thoughts and reflections give a good image of how a person might be feeling in the situation he finds himself in (trying to avoid spoilers). Even the children fit into the realistic emotional picture. Maybe that’s even the best part; that Sparks is able to portray feelings in such a situation in the way he does simply make him amazing. I’ve liked his other books thus far as well, but I think this book tops the emotional spectre of the books he has written and that I’ve read so far. ‘i think my favourite character in this movie is one of the bi-characters; Stephanie, Travis’ younger sister. She is fun and her mouth has no filter, which kind of sounds like me. The way she is a part of the book makes it more interesting and fun to read (you have to read to understand what I mean). I think Stephanie makes a good balance in the book. She is not the main character, but at the same time, something would be missing if she wasn’t in the book. It’s kind of hard to explain, but that was an attempt anyway.
There is a movie based on this book. The movie came out in 2016 so it is actually quite new. The movie is good and there are some artistic cheats along the way, but it didn’t really bother me. Actually, on a few occasions, it makes me laugh which is good. I like the storyline of the movie, but I think people who haven’t read the book might love it even more. That’s kind of the downside about reading books and then watching the movie; you know what is suppose to happen and most times when it doesn’t happen as you imagine you’ll end up disappointed. The actors chosen for this movie are good. I only miss a few visual things could be different as of the way the actors look, but you can’t get it all and they absolutely do a good job! All in all the book is good and the movie is good.
